Food Trucks

So apparently university city is home to some of the most amazing food trucks. My current favorite is the Chinese one that’s between my house and the library. Sometimes I stop by to get dinner after studying in the library (it also helps that’s it’s super cheap and tasty too!)

They have some awesome lunch deals too.
You should definitely try it out!

Potato Pancakes!

Mark, Taylor and Amanda are my new favorite people… because they make amazing potato pancakes.

I have absolutely no idea where they got the energy to make them from scratch, but they did. They even had sour cream and applesauce to go with it!

I think Mark is cutting onions.

They also made a delicious soup that had a nice kick to it.   Thanks for the amazing dinner!

Taylor is awesome at adding the perfect amount of spice!

Han Dynasty

After a series of stressful weeks, Liz suggested that we grab some dinner at Han Dynasty. Mmm I love Han Dynasty! It’s pretty close to school (38 and Market) and serves some awesome Chinese food. But beware! The food can get quite spicy!

Here are my recommendations of what you should try (aka what we ate for dinner):

Dan Dan noodles – they taste amazing, and the peanut sauce make the noodles super savory!
Eggplant with garlic sauce – I love eggplant, and the eggplant at Han is so delicious.  It is a little spicy, so beware
Bok Choy with black mushrooms
String beans with minced pork – Nice traditionally fried string beans!
Hot sauce style fish
Cumin style pork – I like this dish because it isn’t as spicy as most other things on the menu
Taiwanese sausage Fried rice
Kung pao chicken
3 cup chicken – careful you don’t bite into the chunks of garlic
Scallion style beef

Liz, Ivan, Yvonne and I also split a fish bowl! We had tons of fun making fun of Ivan (someone is lacking the ALDH enzyme for ethanol metabolism).

Overall I had an awesome evening with some cool people! I hope we do it again sometime =)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yesterday morning, we were scheduled to take our health promo exam at 8 in the morning which is weird because our exams are usually at 10. So the next morning we all woke up early and trudged over to school.

I think our first clue should have been that the seating arrangement hadn’t been posted yet. But it was still early in the morning, and we had been writing a ton of exams lately so no one really thought much about it. At 8, we were getting a little antsy…. Some of us were still studying so it was ok, but we waited until 8:10 before our academic reps went to the office to figure out what happened.

Yomi and Theresa look way too excited for an 8am exam!

Turns out that they though our exam was at 10. But they told us to sit tight and that the professor would be there at 9. And so we watched videos of animals to pass the time.

At 9 our professor burst in, apologizing and promising ten bonus points for all. She then proceeded to tell us that she would be postponing the exam till 5 pm since some of us had class at 10. And that’s when it happened. I’m pretty sure that we had all just reached our point of maximum frustration. It felt like a wave of mutiny rolling from the back to the front. Some of us were so angry we couldn’t vocalize it. (I think I even heard some snarls and grunts in the back).
But luckily for her, our prof immediately got the message and let us start the test right away. I’d hate to think what would have happened if we hadn’t gotten our way.

And now for our first weekend where we don’t have a test on Monday!

This week we finished our last rotation where we pretended to be patients for each other. We had some fun learning about different dental products, and analyzing our diets (I eat too much bacon and Mark eats too much carrot cake). We also learned how to brush our teeth properly (finally!) and how to floss somebody else’s teeth (ok this one was really difficult and felt very personal.)

Now we’re ready for real patients… Right?
